Here are four quick steps that will teach you the basics of the 'shape' tool.

1. The new vector shapes are an excellent source for logos, buttons and other geometry inspired graphics. Click the shape tool and select one. You can custom make a shape by editing it or combining it with another.

2. For this shape, we used the circle shape, and then curved the back of the circle by using the Convert Point tool and the Direct Selection tool. Then we created a small triangle and aligned it with the circle, and combined the two into one shape.

3. If you want to create a graphic with a hollow center, add a second shape and use either the Subtract or Exclude option.

4. If you want to add some pizzazz to a lifeless image, apply a Layer Style. Select 'blending options' from the Layer Palette or the Layer menu. Play with these options until you think you have mastered them enough to begin creating web pages. Also, don't forget to import textures, and slap on different colors.
